“Musical Courtyards”, Co-creation and Community Engagement in Old Aglantzia
October 31, 2025On Friday 26 September, CNR IRISS joined the European Researchers’ Night 2025 in Piazza Municipio, Naples, presenting the first results of the PS-U-GO Urban Living Lab Naples (PS-U-GO ULL Naples). The initiative took place within the framework of the S.T.R.E.E.T.S project – Science Technology Research for Ethical Engagement Translated in Society, in collaboration with the CREO Campania Rete Outreach, a science communication network made up of 27 CNR Institutes based in Campania and the CNR’s Committee on Equal Opportunities.
First results of the PS-U-GO ULL Naples
The research group coordinated by Stefania Ragozino shared with visitors the first outcomes of the PS-U-GO ULL Naples:
- the Manifesto, a founding document collecting values, objectives and commitments of the local working team
- a timeline retracing civic struggles and institutional decisions around access to the sea
- the collective mapping project of coastal areas to be transformed into spaces of citizenship
Shared methodology and next steps
This P-SU-GO ULL Naples involved a diverse community experimenting with collaborative practices for regeneration and accessibility to urban commons, with particular attention to the sea and coastal liminal areas. The Manifesto, in fact, underlined the importance of protecting liminal areas between the city and the sea as commons, promoting inclusion and care, and producing shared knowledge to support civic claims. The working methodology was also introduced, together with the ongoing development of an Information System on the transformation potential of Naples’ coastal liminal areas for free, clean and accessible sea. The final version of this system will be presented at the Local Multiplier Event in Naples on 6 November 2025, marking the next milestone of the project.
Dialogue with ProPart
The event also hosted participants of ProPart, a second-level master’s programme in participatory design organised by IUAV University of Venice. The master’s students, on a study visit to Naples to explore practices of collective use of commons, engaged in dialogue with the Mare Libero movement and the CNR IRISS research team, accompanied by programme coordinator Prof. Francesca Gelli and faculty members Dr. Giuseppe Micciarelli and Dr. Olga Tzatzadaki.
