“Musical Courtyards”, Co-creation and Community Engagement in Old Aglantzia

On 17 October 2025, the SURF Lab of the University of Cyprus, together with the Triaglis community group of Old Aglantzia, organised the cultural event “Musical Courtyards” in the historic core of Old Aglantzia. The initiative was part of the Ulloι Aglantzia Urban Living Lab within the PS-U-GO (Participatory Skills for Sustainable Urban Governance) project. The event brought together residents, artists, students, local stakeholders and authorities, demonstrating how culture and music can activate neighbourhood spaces and strengthen community connections.

Throughout the event, visitors moved from courtyard to courtyard, enjoying a three-hour live music programme while learning about the participatory actions of Ulloι Aglantzia and the PS-U-GO project. The wooden urban structure SITCom was also presented at Kyriakou Karaoli Square, a small-scale co-created intervention designed with the involvement of local youth and community members, and supported by the Fab Lab of the University of Cyprus. The structure functions as a social gathering point and a platform for community interaction and civic life.

The “Musical Courtyards” initiative aims to become an annual cultural event, enhancing the cultural identity of the area and bringing together institutions, organisations and residents around actions that promote inclusive and resilient neighbourhoods.

The event was held under the auspices of the Municipality of Nicosia and supported by local companies N. Psaras Constructions (Gold Sponsor) and Metro Supermarkets (Supporter).
